# How do I manage paternal leave on Salary.lu?

Paternal leave (congé de paternité) is a legal entitlement in Luxembourg that allows fathers to take time off following the birth or adoption of a child. This leave must be properly recorded on the [Salary.lu](http://salary.lu/) platform to ensure accurate payroll processing.

## Legal framework

In Luxembourg, fathers are entitled to:

* **10 days of paternal leave** following the birth or adoption of a child
* This leave must be taken within **2 months** following the birth or adoption
* The leave can be taken in one continuous period or split into separate days
* During paternal leave, the employee receives 100% of their salary, paid by the employer and reimbursed by the Caisse Nationale de Santé (CNS)

## Steps to add paternal leave on [Salary.lu](http://salary.lu/)

1. Navigate to the "Leaves" page
2. Click the "Add" button
3. Select "Paternal leave" as the leave type
4. Enter the start and end dates of the leave period
5. Specify the number of days taken
6. Fill in any additional required details
7. Save the leave record

## Important considerations

### Payroll processing

* The employee continues to receive their full salary during paternal leave
* The salary is paid by the employer and later reimbursed by the CNS
* Paternal leave days should be properly recorded to ensure correct reimbursement claims

### Documentation

* Keep records of the birth or adoption certificate
* Ensure the leave is taken within the legal 2-month timeframe
* Maintain accurate records of the dates taken, especially if the leave is split into separate periods

### Reimbursement

* The employer can request reimbursement from the CNS for the paternal leave days paid
* Proper documentation and accurate leave records on [Salary.lu](http://salary.lu/) facilitate this reimbursement process
