How do I add a compensatory leave in the HORECA field?

For HORECA employees who work on public holidays, Luxembourg law requires specific compensation. This article explains how to record compensatory leave hours in Salary.

Understanding compensatory leave for HORECA

HORECA employees (hotels, restaurants, bars) and employees in seasonal businesses who work on public holidays are entitled to compensation according to the Grand-Ducal Regulation. The employer must choose one of three compensation methods:

  • Two paid rest days within six months
  • Two paid leave days added to annual leave
  • Half-day paid rest per week throughout the year

In addition to this compensation, employees always receive their regular pay for hours worked on the public holiday.

Adding compensatory leave

To record compensatory leave for an employee who worked on a public holiday:

  1. Log in to your Salary account
  2. Navigate to the "Leaves" section
  3. Click "Add"
  4. Select the employee from the dropdown
  5. Choose "Compensatory leave (added on top)" as the type of leave
  6. Enter the date when the employee worked on the public holiday
  7. Enter the number of compensatory hours
  8. Click "Create"

Enter the date when the employee worked, not when they will take the time off. The system automatically adds these hours to the employee's leave balance.

This is different from standard public holiday compensation that applies when a public holiday falls on a regular working day.
